Hi everyone,
We’ve made a change to how you download sheet music from Realbook.site, and we wanted to explain it clearly.
What stays free, always: viewing sheet music, playing it back, and transposing to any key. That’s the core of Realbook.site, and it isn’t going anywhere — no account required, no limits.
What’s changed: saving a copy of a score to your own device — as MusicXML, MEI, MIDI, or PDF — is now a paid feature. Here’s why: every export is generated by the same notation engine that powers the viewer, and keeping that engine fast, accurate, and free for everyone to use takes ongoing work. Charging for downloads specifically (rather than for viewing) lets us keep the viewer open to all while funding the parts of the site that cost the most to run.
How to unlock downloads:
- Subscribe — $10/month for unlimited downloads across the whole catalog.
- Buy a single download — $1 if you just need one score, no subscription required.
Both options are available right from the score page — just click Download and you’ll see the choice.
If you’ve been using Realbook.site to view and play jazz standards, nothing changes for you today. If you download often, a subscription will likely pay for itself fast. And if it’s just one song you need this week, the $1 option is there for exactly that.
Whenever you’re ready to download sheet music again, the option is right there on the score page. Thanks for being part of Realbook.site — more to come soon.
